1/500 scale 30m telescope

A paper craft of the Thirty Meter Telescope (30 meter telescope) scheduled to be completed in the 2020s has been completed. Pre-cut according to the original design. Construction plans are underway on the summit of Mauna Kea. This is a "next-generation ultra-large optical telescope" that uses segmented mirrors to achieve a diameter of 30 m by combining 492 hexagonal mirrors with a diagonal of about 1.44 m. You can imagine the size of the 30m telescope compared to the Nobeyama 45m radio telescope.

1/500 scale Nobeyama 45m Radio Telescope

This is a pre-cut paper craft model of the Nobeyama 45m Radio Telescope, which is still one of the world's largest millimeter-wave radio telescopes and was selected as an IEEE Milestone in 2017. Completed in 1982, it has led the field of radio astronomy in Japan, and in particular, the research that first confirmed the existence of a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy surprised the world. In addition, the technology introduced in the 45m radio telescope is also utilized in today's telescopes such as ALMA. While making paper crafts, think back to the origins of Japan's large-scale telescope project over 35 years ago.
